Explanation:- Here , the constant horizontal force required to take the body from position 1 to position 2 can be calculated by using work - energy theorem . Let us assume that body be taken slowly , so that its speed doesn't change then

  • ∆K = 0 = Wᶠ + Wᵐᵍ + Wᵗᵉⁿᵗⁱᵒⁿ
  • [Symbol have their usual meaning ]
  • Wᶠ = FLsin45 ° = FL/ √2
  • Wᵐᵍ = Mg (L- Lcos45°) , Wᵗᵉⁿˢⁱᵒⁿ = 0
  • ∴ Wᶠ =- Wᵐᵍ
  • FLsin45° = mg (L - L cos45°)
  • Fsin45° = mg (1-cos45°)
  • F× 1/√2 = mg (1-1/√2)

∴ F= mg (√2-1) Answer .
