A mass of M kg is suspended to a weightless string.Find the horizontal force that is required to displace it until it makes an an angle 45 degree with initial vertical direction.

Answer:

There are two components of T .

In vertical direction T sin 45° = T/√2 is balancing

weight = mg

So T/√2 = mg or T = √2 mg

Now in horizontal there is T cos 45° which will be balance by our force F

F = T cos45°= √2mg /√2 = mg

So

F = mg
