A mat of mass 2kg and length 2m is placed on floor. One end of the mat is pulled with a constant speed of 1m / s towards the other end till other end comes into motion ( till mat is reserved ) How much force is required?

We will apply the kinematics equation that is relevant.

In this question we have the initial velocity, the displacement(the length of the carpet) and the initial velocity(the carpet is initially at rest.

The equation i as follows:

v² = u² + 2as

v = final velocity

u = the initial velocity

a = acceleration

s = displacement

v = 1 m/s

u = 0

s = 2m

1² = 0 + 2 × a × 2

1 = 4a

a = 1/4 = 0.25 m/s²

Force = mass × acceleration

By substitution we have :

Force = 0.25 × 2 = 0.5 N
