In match sticks used, red phosphorus are used whose ignition temperature is very high, around 445 degree Celsius.

When the top of the match stick is rubbed against the match box, a certain amount of phosphorus get heated up and results in a tiny spark.

This spark ignites the antimony trisulphide in the head of the match stick.

Simultaneously, the potassium chlorate breaks down to provide oxygen producing a flame on the head of the match stick.
