On rubbing the matchstick on the rough surface the floor, the friction converts this work into heat energy that raises temperatureof the chemical present on the head of the matchstick and reaches its ignition temperature. On reaching the ignition temperature it catches fire starts burning. Hence , we can lit a matchstick.
