There are some chemicals used in matchbox and matchstick so that they produce fire when both rub each other. The chemical present in matchstick is potassium chlorate, sulfur, starch and glue. These chemicals present on the tip of the matchstick. Matchbox striking surface contains red phosphorus, powdered glass and glue. When match stick strike on matchbox striking surface heat produces that causes reaction between the potassium chlorate in match top and red phosphorus in striking surfaces.
