= A mechanic strikes a nail with hammer of mass 500gm moving with velocity of 20ms.
The hammer comes to rest in 0.02 second, after striking the nail. Calculate the force exerted
by the nail on hammer.

SOLUTION:-

Given:

Initial velocity of hammer,(u)= 20m/s

Final velocity of hammer,(v)= 0 [In rest]

So,

To find acceleration, 'a'.

Time, (t)= 0.02 seconds

=) 2/100 second, we have

a =  \frac{v - u}{t}  \\  \\  =  > a =  \frac{(0 - 20)}{ (\frac{2}{100}) }  \\  \\  =  > a =  - 20 \times ( \frac{100}{2} ) \\  \\  =  > a =    - \frac{2000}{2}  \\  \\  =  > a =  - 1000m/ {s}^{2}

Now,

We know that force= m× a.

Where, m= mass & a= acceleration

=) F= 500g × -1000

=) F= -500000N

Hope it helps ☺️

Answer:

here m=500g =>1/2 kg

u=20m/s

v=0

t=0.02 seconds

V=U+AT

0=20+0.02A

-20=0.02A

A=-1000 m/s^2

F=ma

F=1/2 (-1000)

F=-500 N
