answer:

(a) Provisions of Subsidiary Alliance:

  • Princely rulers were not allowed to make any negotiation with any other ruler.

  • Princely rulers were not allowed to have an independent armed force. They were to be protected by the East India Company (EIC), but had to pay for the subsidiary forces that the company was to maintain for protection.

  • If the rulers failed to make the payment, a part of their territory was taken as a penalty.

(b) The following are the ways in which newspaper (press) contributed to the development of a strong national sentiment among the Indians:

  • The press helped in spreading the message of patriotism and the modern liberal idea of liberty, freedom, equality, home rule and independence.

  • The press didn't mince words in criticising the British government and exposed the true nature of British rule in India.

  • It enabled the vast Indian population, spread across different regions, and linguistic terrains, to exchange views, be in contact and organise the joint political movements.

(c) Following are the main objectives of the United Nations.

  • Maintain international peace and security.

  • Develop friendly relations between nations.

  • Promote social progress, better living standards, and human rights.

(After decolonisation)
