A merchant gives a discount of 10 % on tea but uses a false weight which actually measures 900 grams instead of 1000 grams.

To find : his net loss.

solution : let cost price of 1000 grams tea is 1000 Rs.

now merchant gives a discount of 10% on tea.

i.e., 1000 grams tea is sold in just 900 Rs.

but he uses a false weight which actually measures 900 g instead of 1000g.

so, cost price of 900g tea is 900 Rs.

now net loss = (cost price - selling price)/cost price × 100

= (900 - 900)/900 × 100

= 0%

Therefore neither loss nor gain in the selling of tea.
