Given,

A merchant purchased $500$ coconuts at rate of rupees $4$ per coconut out of these $40$ coconuts were damaged he sell the remaining coconuts at $5$ per coconut.

Cost price of $500$ coconuts at the rate of rupees $4=500\times4$

$= 2000$

Out of $500$ coconuts $40$ coconuts were damaged

So,

Remaining coconuts $= 500-40=460$

He sell remaining at $5$ per coconut $= 460\times5$

$= 2300$

Profit $=$ Cost price of $460$ coconuts $-$ Cost price of $500$ coconuts

Profit $= 2300-2000$

$= 300$

Profit% $= \frac{300}{2000}\times100$

$=15$%

Therefore, he get $15$% profit.
