Solution :-

since the temperature drops by 3 degrees Fahrenheit every hour . Let us assume that, the given temperature is in AP .

So,

→ Temperature at 10AM = first term = a = 8° F

→ Common difference = d = (-3)° F

→ nth term = at 2 PM = 10 AM to 2PM = 5

then,

→ T(n) = a + (n - 1)d

→ T(4) = 8 + (5 - 1)(-3)

→ T(4) = 8 + 4 * (-3)

→ T(4) = 8 - 12

→ T(4) = (-4)° F (Ans.)

Hence, the temperature by 2 P.M. of the same day will be (-4)° F .
