Let atomic mass of metal is M and valency of metal is x.
so, chemical formula of metal oxide = M2Ox
% by weight of oxygen = 32%
so, mass of oxygen/mass of metal oxide × 100 = 32
or, (16 × x)/(M × 2 + 16 × x) × 100 = 32
or, 16x/(2M + 16x) = 8/25
or, 400x = 16M + 128x
or, 272x = 16M
or, M/x = 272/16 = 57
so, equivalent mass of metal = M/x = 57
