A metal ball of 5 kg falls from a height of 490 m . How much time will it take to reach the ground.( g = 9.8 m/s² )

initial velocity of metal ball , u = 0

displacement travelled by metal ball, S = 490m

use formula, S = ut + 1/2at²

or, 490 = 0 × t + 1/2 × g × t²

[ here g is acceleration due to gravity ]

or, 490 = 1/2 × 9.8 × t²

or, 490 = 4.9t²

or, t² = 100 => t = 10s

hence, time taken by metal ball to reach the ground is 10sec
