A metal ball of mass 2 kg moving with speed of
36 km/h has a head on collision with a stationary
ball of mass 3 kg. If after collision, both the balls
move together, then the loss in kinetic energy due to
collision is
(a) 40 J
(b) 60 J
(c) 100 J

hii

your answer is here !

Explanation:

=> Let v be the common velocity.

=> Applying conservation of momentum

=> 2 × 10 + 3 × 0 = ( 2 + 3 ) v

=> v = 10 \times 2  \div 5  = 4m / sec

=> { 36km/hour's = 10m/sec }

=> Initial Energy = 1/2 × 2 × (10)^2 + 0 = 100J

=> Final Energy = 1/2 × 5 × 4 × 4 = 40J

=> Loss of energy  joule = 100 - 40 J = 60J

=> option B {60J} is right answer !
