A metal compound reacts with acid to produce effervescence. The gas evolved extinguishes a burning candle. Name the compound & the gas. How will you test the gas? Write the balanced chemical equation.

The compound is baking soda(nahco3 )which when reacts with any acid and heated gives baking powder with co2 gas ,so metal compounf is sodium bicarbonate or baking soda and gas is co2 which can work as an extinguisher of fire......u can check the presence of co2 gas by passing it to lime water it will turn to milky ppt. Which shows the presence of co2 the reaction is. Nahco3 +h+(from acid)=co2 +h20+sodium salt of acid hope this can help u
