a metal cube of side 12cm is melted and a cuboid of base 18cm by 16cm is formed. find the height of the cuboid.

Answer:  

so first you have to find the volume of the cube =

side= 12cm         vol = S^3

vol=S x S x S =    12 x 12 x 12 = 1728cm^3

so volume of the cube should be equal to vol of cuboid

vol of cuboid = L x B x H

                     = 18 x 16 x H

                     =228 x H

                     = 1728 = 228 x H

                     H=6cm  ( by solving the above equation)

so the height = 6cm .

volume of cube =a³
= 12³
=1728cm³
volume of new rectangle
="lbh" also equal to volume of cube
18*16*h=1728
288h=1728
h=1728/288

therefore the height is 6cm
