A. METAL is reacted with SODIUM HYDROXIDE to give HYDROGEN GAS

B. METAL CARBONATE + dil.ACID SALT + GAS + WATER to give HYDROGEN gas.

•In both cases HYDROGEN and OXYGEN gas is evolved.

Example:-

• 2Fe+2NaOH= 2FeNa+H2+O2

Here we see,

•2moles of IRON and 2moles of SODIUM HYDROXIDE to give SODIUM FERRITE , HYDROGEN and OXYGEN gas is evolved.

•In order to identify the gas which is evolved outside is determine by BURNING a match STICK at the NOSE of the TEST - TUBE.

•If , it burns MORE , we say that the gas evolved is HYDROGEN.
