Its ore is known as Cinnabar.

When HgS is heated in air,HgO will form and on further heating, pure Hg will be obtained.

2HgS+3O2----->2HgO +2SO2

This is called roasting.

When 2HgO is heated above 300 C It decomposes and pure mercury is obtained.
