  • 60%metal means the oxide contains 40%oxygen
  • 100 g oxide contains 60g metal and 40g oxygen

equivalent weight of metal

=(60/40)×8=12

% of metal in metal oxide = 60 %

Thus% of oxygen = 100 - 60 = 40 %

If we take the basis of calculation to be 100g ,

mass of metal × Eq. wt. of oxygen

mass of oxygen

•°• Eq. wt. of metal = 60 × 8
----
40
= 12
