Formula:

ΔL = Lα(ΔT)

Here :

  • ΔL is the change in length
  • L is the initial length
  • α is the coefficient of linear expansion
  • ΔT is change in temperature

Given:

  • ΔL = 0.96 mm = 0.00096 m
  • L = 0.5 m
  • ΔT = 95 - 15 = 80

Process:

Substituting the given values, we get:

0.00096 = 0.5 x α x 80

α = 0.000024

Hence, we can say that coefficient of linear expansion is 0.000024 C^{-1}
