Calcium displaces hydrogen from cold water and forms calcium hydroxide.

Ca + 2H2O ------>Ca(OH)2 + H2.

a: bleaching powder is calicum oxychloride the chemical formula of bleaching powder is CaCl2. when bleaching powder reacts with dilute HCL to luberate Cl2 gas water. CaOCl2 +2HCL -> CaCl2 +Cl2 +H2O
