A metal wire of length 40 cm is moulded into a square. Then
the same wire is moulded into a rectangle with length 12 cm.
Find the figure with greater area.

the greater figure with area is square = side of a square = 40 cm

area of square =sxs

=40x40

=1600cm²

area of rectangle = lxb

=p/2-length = breadth

=40/2-length

=8 cm breadth

area = 12x8

=96cm²

therefore area of square will be = side ×side

=10×10 =100cm²

the length of wire would be the perimeter of rectangle and the length 12cm is given

so, perimeter of rectangle = 2( l+b)

40 = 2 ( 12 + b)

20 =12+b

20-12 = b

8cm = b

area of rectangle = l × b

= 12×8

= 96 cm²

so , rectangle will have larger area.
