Metal X is copper (Cu). It forms salt CuSO4 with sulphuric acid.
Cu + 2H2SO4 --> CuSO4 + SO2 + 2H20
CuSO4 reacts with sodium hydroxide to form Cu(OH)2 (compound Y) which makes blue ppt.
CuSO4 + NaOH --> Cu(OH)2 + Na2S04
