(1) Since the metal is burning we can safely assume that it is a combustion reaction. The answers are as follows:

(A)

(I) The metal is magnesium

atomic no. = 12.

(Il) It characteristically burns with a dazzling white flame.

(Ill) Therefore, X= MAGNESIUM.

(IV) Since in a combustion reaction the element usually burns in presence of oxygen to form an oxide, Y must be magnesium oxide.

Therefore, Y= MgO

(B) The balanced equation for this reaction is given in the picture attached.

(C)

(I)As stated above this is a combustion reaction.

(Il) Combustion is the scientific term for burning.

In combustion elements react with molecular oxygen in an exothermic reaction to give element oxide.

Here, Mg reacts with oxygen to give magnesium oxide.

A metal X on heating burns with white dazzling light and froms grey powder y

Metal X is magneisum

Y is magnesium Oxide

magnesium ribbion on burning gives magneisum oxide.

balanced chemical equation :

Mg (s)+ O2(g) ----> 2MgO(s) + Q

This reacton is called as chemical combination reaction where 2 reactants react to give a single product.
