Given:-

Mass percentage of metal in metal oxide is 60.

To find :-

Equivalent weight of metal.

Solution :-

Equivalent weight :- The ratio of the molar weight to its valency is known as equivalent weight.

Equivalent weight = \dfra  {Molar wt. }{Valency}

Let the weight of metal oxide be 100 g.

Weight of metal = 60 g

Weight of oxygen = 40 g

Valency of oxygen is = 8

Now, equivalent weight of metal :-

= \dfrac{wt.of metal }{wt.of oxygen}\times 8

= \dfrac{60}{40}\times 8

= \dfrac {6}{4}\times8

hence,Equivalent weight of metal 12 .
