GiveN :

  • A metallic wire of resistance R is cur into 10 equal parts of equal length, then 2 are joined in series and then such five 5 combinations in parallel.

To FinD :

  • Equivalent Resistance

SolutioN :

If a wire of resistance of R ohm is cut into ten equal parts it means each resistance will be equal to R/10 ohms.

Arranging two in series :

⇒R' = R/10 + R/10

⇒R' = 2R/10

⇒R' = R/5

Now, arrange five combinations C' in parallel . We get,

⇒1/R_{eq} = 5/R + 5/R + 5/R + 5/R + 5/R

⇒1/R_{eq} = (5 + 5 + 5 + 5 +5)/R

⇒1/R_{eq} = 25/R

⇒R_{eq} = R/25

➭ Equivalent resistance is R/25 ohms.
