A meter scale of negligible mass is kept on a knife edge at the 65 cm mark. A mass of 10 gm is suspended from 90 cm mark and another mass of 5 gm is suspended from 16 cm mark. Find out the resultant moment of forces about the pivot. [Take acceleration due to gravity= 9.8 m/s². ] *

Answer:

65

Explanation:

Let the 450 g object be kept at a distance 'x' from the 50 cm mark.

For the metre scale to be horizontal, moments must be balanced at the center point.

Clock wise moments = Anti clock wise moments

150×(50−5)=450×x

x=15cm

The coordinate at which 450 g should be placed is =50+x

=50+15

=65cm

=65 cm mark on the metre scale should the 450 g mass be placed.
