From law of conservation of energy, we have the potential energy of vertically positioned rod is converted into kinetic energy of rotation.

∴M/2gl=1/2Iω^2 Moment of inertia of a thin rod is I = 1/3Ml^2 M/2gl=1/2^2/3ω^2 ⇒ω=√ 3g/l given l = 1 m ω=√ 3g Also, v=rω ⇒v=1×√3×9.8=5.4 ms−1
