His profit will be:  a. 3950

Explanation

A milk-man has 300 liters of milk at a rate of Rs. 19/liter. So, the total actual price of 300 liters milk =Rs.19 *300 =Rs. 5700

After adding 200 liters of water, the total amount will be: (300+200)liters = 500 liters.

He sold 400 liters for Rs. 20/liter, so the total selling price of 400 liters milk = Rs. 20*400= Rs. 8000

Now, the remaining amount = (500-400)liters = 100 liters and he added 10 liters of water to it and sold it for Rs. 15/liter. So, the selling price of (100+10)liters or 110 liters milk =Rs. 15 *110= Rs. 1650

Thus, the profit = (Total selling price - Total actual price)                                     =Rs.(8000+1650)-Rs.5700\\ \\ =Rs. 9650-Rs.5700\\ \\ =Rs. 3950

Find the cost of the milk:

1 litre = Rs 19

300 litres = 19 x 300 = Rs 5700

Find the amount of mixture to be sold:

milk = 300 litres

water = 200 litres

Total = 300 + 200 = 500 litres

Find the earnings from the first 400 litres:

1 litre = Rs 20

400 litres = 20 x 400 = Rs 8000

Find the remaining mixture to be sold:

Remaining = 500 - 400 = 100 litres

Mixture after adding another 10 litres = 100 + 10 = 110 litres

Find the earnings from the 110 litres:

1 litre = Rs 15

110 litres = 15 x 110 = Rs 1650

Find the total earnings:

Total earnings = 8000 + 1650 = Rs 9650

Find the profit:

Profit = Rs 9650 -  Rs 5700 = Rs 3950

Answer: (A) Rs 3950
