See the diagram.

A'FC and A'GD are similar triangles.

    A'F / FC = A'G / GD

       X/X =  (X+Y) / 6X
        1 = (X+Y) / 6X
          6 X = X + Y

        Y = 5 X

Answer:

Y = 5x

Explanation:

Given

ABC AND ACD ARE TRIANGLES GIVEN

AB/BC =AC/AD

AB =X

BC=X

AC = X+Y

AD = 12X/2X = 6X

SO

X/X = X+Y/6X

6X = X+Y

6X-X = Y

SO Y=5X .
