Statement of the given problem,

A mixture contains milk and water in the ratio of 4:3. If 5 liters of water is added to the mixture, the ratio becomes 4:5. What is the quantity of milk in the given mixture?

Let M & W denote amounts (in L) of milk & water in the given mixture.

Hence from above data we get following relations,

M : W = 4 : 3

or W/M = 3/4 …… (1)

M : (W + 5) = 4 : 5

or (W + 5)/M = 5/4

or W/M + 5/M = 5/4

or 5/M = 5/4 - 3/4 [from (1)]

or 5/M = 2/4 = 1/2

or M = 2*5 = 10 (L) [Ans]
