Given : A mixture is made with 45 ounces of a 10% saline solution and ? ounces of a 70% saline solution. The resulting mixture is a 25% saline solution.

To Find : What is the value of ?

Solution:

mixture is made with 45 ounces of a 10% saline solution

Salt = (10/100)45 = 4.5   ounces

? = X ounces

X  ounces of a 70% saline solution.

=> Salt = (70/100)X  = 0.7X  ounces

Total Salt  = 4.5 + 0.7X  ounces

Total Mixture =  45 + X   ounces

25% saline

=> (25/100)  45 + X = 4.5 + 0.7X

=> 45 + X = 18  + 2.8X

=> 1.8X = 27

=> X  = 15

value of ?  = 15 Ounces
