Answer:

The answer is 2.8g

Explanation:

The chemical reaction of oxalic acid:

HCOOH ------> CO + H2O

Calculate the moles of carbon monoxide formed.

Moles of CO = mass of formic acid/molar mass of formic acid

                   = 2.3 / 46 = 23 /460

                   = 1/20 moles = 0.05 moles

Calculate the moles of carbon monoxide formed in the presence of dilute H2SO4.

H2C2O4 ------>  CO + CO2 + H2O

Moles of CO = 4.5 / 90 = 45 / 900

                    = 1/ 20 = 0.05 moles

The only product formed is CO because KOH absorbs CO2.

The total number of moles formed during each reaction.

 0.05 + 0.05 =  0.1 moles

Mass of CO = no. of moles x molar mass

                  = 0.1 x 28

                   = 2.8 g
