A mixture of 20 litres contains milk and water in the ratio 4 : 1. How many litres of the mixture be taken out and the same quantity of water added to it so that the ratio of milk and water becomes 3 : 2? ​

Let “V” - Litres of milk-water mixture in the Ratio of 4 : 1, be removed and “V”- Litres of water be added.

Then (20-V) x 4/5 = 20 x 3/5

=16- 0.8V= 12

=0.8V= 4 ;

So V= 4/0.8=5.

So if we remove 5- Litres of milk-water mixture in the ratio of 4:1, and then add 5- Litres of water, the new mixture will contain milk-water in the ratio of 3 : 2.
