Let the 55 litres of mixture contains 7x of milk and 4x of water,

Total mixture = amount of milk + amount of water

=> 55 = 7x + 4x

=> 55 = 11 x

=> 55 / 11 = x

=> 5 = x

Hence, mixture contains 7( 5 ) = 35 litres of milk and 4( 5 ) = 20 litres of water

Ratio = 35 : 20

Then, Let y must be added to each to the mixture to make the ratio 3 : 2

( 35 + y ) : ( 20 + y ) = 3 : 2

2( 35 + y ) = 3( 20 + y )

70 + 2y = 60 + 3y

70 - 60 = 3y - 2y

10 = y

Hence, 10 litres must be added to each to make the ratio 3 : 2
