If ethyne is burnt in oxygen at high

temp. (3000)°C gives a clean flame due to complete combustion of ethyne. Hence this OXY-ACETYLENE

Flames is used for welding .

And when ethyne burnt in air doesnot gives clean flames

Air contains nitrogen and other inactive gaseous contents and sufficient oxygen is not available for burning ethyne to give the required heat and incomplete combustion will take place whereas ethyne with oxygen gives enough heat that can be used for welding .
