A mixture of oxygen and ethyne is burnt for welding. Can you say, why the mixture of ethyne and air is not used?

Because ethyne is an unsaturated carbon compounds , so contain a comparatively higher percentage of carbon and hence need higher amount of oxygen for complete combustion , so when burned with oxygen complete combust ion of ethyne takes place producing a high temperature required for welding

as ethene being a unsaturated compound needs more oxygen to burn to its fullest
