a heterogeneous mixture of sand/salt will be separated into its component parts. Differences in solubility allow the salt to be dissolved in water; leaving the sand still in its solid phase. ... The sand is then dried. Hence, the components of the sand/salt mixture are separated.

a mixture of sand and salt is heterogeneous mixture

E.G- take a glass put some sand in it and then put some salt in it.

observe it carefully you will notice that there is a clear boundary of separation.

Then shake the mixture you will notice that they will no mix like salt mixes in water.

and salt and sand can be separated from each other's mixture.
