Very good question !!! Thanks for asking it.

Given mixture :  sand, powdered glass and common salt

  • When the mixture is dissolved in water , as salt is soluble in water it dissolves and forms salt solution.
  • Leave the mixture for some time.
  • Sand sediments at the bottom of water .
  • Glass which is insoluble in water sediments at bottom of water.
  • When filtration method is done, first sand and glass which are insoluble are left out as residue on filter paper.
  • The filtrate contains salt solution.

Common salt is the substance which present in the filtrate because when you take salt and dissolve in water

which is soluble whereas the sand and powered glass are not soluble and

it will settle down as such in the filter paper even you try out to dissolve and filter for many times.
