Mercury and water are separated by decantation by using separating funnel as the separation of two immiscible liquids by a separating funnel depends on the difference in their densities. Mercury is heavier than water therefore, forms the lower layer and separated from water.

Hey dear,

● Answer -
By suspension

● Explanation -
- Water & mercury are two immiscible liquids as they don't get mixed with each other.
- When they are taken in a beaker, mercury forms bottom layer & water forms top layer.
- We can simply separate these by taking out water by tilting the beaker.
- This is possible because of variable densities of both liquids.

Hope this helps you.
