The vendor sold 12 pencils

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the no. of pencils be x and the number of ball pens be y

Then

x+y=22  ................ (1)

Cost of one pencil = $15

Cost of one ball pen = $20

According to the question

15x+20y=380

or, 3x+4y=76  ............ (2)

Multiplying eq (1) by 4 and subtracting eq (2) from it

(4x+4y)-(3x+4y)=88-76

\implies x=12

Therefore, the no. of pencils he sold = 12

Hope this answer is helpful.
