Question :- A model of a boat is made on the scale of 1:4. The model is 120cm long. The full size of the boat has a width of 60cm. What is the width of the scale model ?

Solution :-

Scale factor :- The ratio of two corresponding sides in similar figures is called the scale factor.

  • scale factor = (Length in image)/(Length in object.)

given that,

→ scale factor = (1/4) .

so,

→ (Width of model) / (Width of boat) = (1/4)

→ (Width of model) / 60 = (1/4)

→ 4 * Width of model = 60

→ Width of model = 15 cm. (Ans.)

Hence, the width of the scale model is 15 cm.
