of length 15 cm, 7 cm and 8 cm. Will he be able to construct the triangle?

Support your answer with proper reason.

(a) your answer is NO because the SUM of the TWO SMALLER sides SHOULD be MORE than the THIRD side....and in this question the sum of the two smaller sides ( 7cm and 8cm ) = 15cm which is also the length of the third side and thus cannot be constructed.

Given:-

line segments  of length 15 cm, 7 cm and 8 cm.

To Find:-

Can Mohini construct a triangle with the given lengths

Solution:-

The sum of any two sides of a triangle is always greater than the third side.

Here, (15+7) = 22 cm, which is greater than 8 cm

next, (15+8) =23 cm, which is greater than 8 cm

But, (7+8) = 15 cm which is equal to the remaining side.

So, the criteria is not fulfilled

Hence, construction of a triangle with the given sides is not possible.

An angle that measures greater than 90° but less than 180° is termed as an obtuse angle. A triangle having an of its angles as obtuse is defined as an obtuse-angled triangle.
