A monkey distributed ladoos to two cats, black and white cheating them of
some and eating those himself. At the end of the distribution, if the black cat
were to give some ladoos to the white cat, the white cat would
as many ladoos as the black cat. If the white cat were to give the same
number of ladoos to the black cat, the white cat would have three times the
number of ladoos as that of the black cat.
Q.1 :- What is the ratio of ladoos initially distributed to the white cat and the black cat respectively?
(1) 10:3 (ii) 19:5 (iii) 5 : 21 (iv) Cannot be determined
Q.2 :- If the total number of ladoos was 30. what was the number f ladoos eaten by the monkey?
Answers
Answer:
Ans 1: (ii) 19:5
Ans 2: 6
Step-by-step explanation:
Ques 1:
Let the number of ladoos the white cat got was x and the no. of ladoos the black cat got was y
Let us assume that the black cat gives 'a' no. of ladoos to the white cat then according to the question
5(y-a) = x+a
or, 5y - x = 6a ................... (1)
Again if white cat gives 'a' ladoos to the black cat then as per question
3(y+a) = x-a
or, 3y - x = -4a ................... (2)
Subtracting eq (1) from eq (2) we get
2y = 10a
or, y = 5a
Putting the value of y in eq (1)
5×5a - x = 6a
or x = 25a - 6a = 19a
Therefore, the ratio of the ladoos of the white cat and black cat
= x:y
=19:5
Ques 2:
If we take the common ratio as 'a' then white cat has 19a ladoos and black cat has 5a ladoos.
19a + 5a = 24a
Therefore for them to have the number of ladoos a whole number, their total number of ladoos should be a multiple of 24 but since the maximum no. of ladoos are 30 therefore they must have 24 ladoos among them
Thus the ladoos eaten by the monkey = 30-24 = 6
