This is a question on relative speed.

The two speeds are perpendicular to each other.

The two motions form a right angled triangle of base 4m/s and height 3m/s.

The relative speed is the hypotenuse speed of this motion.

We get the hypotenuse by pythagoras theorem.

Let the hypotenuse be c, the base be b and the height be a.

By Pythagoras theorem :

c² = a² + b²

c² = 3² + 4²

c² = 25

c = √25

c = 5

The relative speed is : 5 m/s
