Given : a mosaic is designed in the shape of an equilateral triangle 12 ft on each side. each tile in the mosaic is in the shape of an equilateral triangle of 12 inch side

To find : number of tiles required

Solution:

a mosaic is designed in the shape of an equilateral triangle 12 ft on each side

=> Area of triangle =  (√3 / 4)12²   = 144 (√3 / 4) ft²

each tile in the mosaic is in the shape of an equilateral triangle of 12 inch side.

12 inch = 1 ft

=> Area of each Tile =  (√3 / 4)1²   =  √3 / 4   ft²

Number of tiles required  =   Total Mosaic Area / tile area

=  144 (√3 / 4)  / ( √3 / 4 )

= 144

144 tiles required in the mosaic
