Answer:-

Mother age = 32 years.

Daughter age = 14 years.

Solution:-

Let the age of mother be x years and daughter be y years.

A/Q.

The sum of their age is 46 years.

 x + y = 46 -----eq. 1

Now, After 4 years mother age be twice the daughter age :-

Mother age after 4 years = ( x + 4)

Daughter age after 4 years = (y + 4)

then,

 (x +4) = 2(y+4) \\ x + 4 = 2y + 8 \\x - 2y = 8 - 4 \\ x - 2y = 4----eq.2

Now , subtract both equation 1 and 2.

 x + y = 46 \\ x - 2y = 4

 x - x + y -(-2y ) = 46-4 \\y + 2y = 42

 3y = 42 \\ y = 14 years

Put the value of y in equation 1.

 x + 14 = 46 \\ x = 46 - 14 \\ x = 32 years

hence, Mother present age is = 32 years.

, Mother present age is = 32 years. Daughter present age is = 14 years.
