Answer:

Present age of:-

SON = 3 years.

MOTHER = 33 years.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the present age of the son be y years.

∵ Mother is 30 years older than her son,

:. The present age of mother = (y + 30) years.

:. After 12 years,

   Age of son = (y + 12) years.

   Age of mother = ((y + 30) + 12) years.

                            = (y  + 42) years.

According to the question,

(y + 42) = 3 X (y + 12)

=> y + 42 = 3y + 36

=> 42 - 36 = 3y - y

=> 2y = 6

=> y = \frac{6}{2}

=> y = 3.

:. The present age of son = 3 years

The present age of mother = (3 + 30) = 33 years.
