Mother's present age is 45 years.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the present age of mother be x years

and present age of daughter be y years.

We are given with the following conditions;

  • First condition says that mother is five times as old as her daughter, that means;

                         x = 5 \times y  ------------ [Equation 1]

  • Second condition says that 5 years ago she was ten times as old  as her daughter, i.e.;

                        x-5 = 10 \times (y-5)

                        x-5 = 10y - 50

                        5y-5 =10y-50       {using equation 1}

                        10y - 5y = 50-5

                           5y=45

                            y = \frac{45}{5} = 9 years

So, putting value of y in equation 1 we get; x = 5 \times 9 = 45 years

Therefore, the present age of mother is 45 years.
