Answer:

12Km/hr

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the speed of the stream be x Km/hr

Distance/speed=time

⇒Speed of the boat while going upstream =24/(24-x) hr

And speed of the boat while going downstream =24/(24+x) hr

So,

24/(24+x)+1=24/(24-x)

⇒(48+x)(24-x)=24(24+x)

⇒1152-24x-x²=576+x²

⇒2x²+24x-576=0

⇒x²+12x-288=0

⇒x²+24x-12x-288=0

⇒x(x+24)-12(x+24)=0

∴x=12,-24

Since speed can't be a negative number,

x=12km/hr

∴ The speed of the stream is 12Km/hr
